Young and hot-blooded, the Kandas are a group of exiles now residing in the United States. They are proud and easily offended. While the clan has grown in size since arriving on American soil, the Kandas are extremely selective about who they turn or accept into their ranks, and have been focusing on selecting new members who are loyal, wealthy, and influential in order to further their cause. They are easily offended and incredibly combative despite their limited numbers.
Though they have their roots far back in India’s history, the current iteration of the Kanda clan is relatively recent. Following the death of the clan’s regent in the mid 1700s, a feud for power broke out between the remaining heirs and the clan separated into two major sects. The larger and more powerful of these saw merit in hiding away from the world, while the smaller and more ambitious felt that vampire kind was too powerful to live in the shadows.
The two sides were thrown into civil war, and both suffered heavy losses. In the end, the larger side emerged victorious, the smaller having lost its leader. Vampires on the losing side were given an ultimatum: assimilate or be exiled from their homeland until such a time as the two halves of the Kanda clan could peacefully co-exist. Many chose to stay in their homeland and abandon their cause, but many more were exiled. The disgraced Kandas made their way to America, where they have been ever since.
While they possess a fair amount of power and influence in the United States, the Kanda clan is still considered by most of the other vampire families to be a group of exiles living in a strange land. Chief among the reasons for their strained relationships with other clans is the fact that they are constantly vying for territory of their own; while the clan has members all over the United States, they still have no territory to speak of.
Their exile has also made their leaders, Rakesh and Savita, keen on closely managing the clan’s reputation. Vampires who owe their allegiance to the Kandas are not permitted to turn other vampires without express permission from the leadership, and those who violate this or any other of the clan’s laws are dealt with harshly.
Their extreme youth and hair-trigger temper mean that the Kandas have no formal allies to speak of, as yet. They do, however, occasionally collaborate with members of both the Seung clan and the Fool's Court.
They have no formal relationship with the Nassar clan (although informally, it is uneasy), and their relationships with the Idoni and Ortega families both border on enmity. All three of these clans think of the Kandas as ruthless and uncivilized, which, although true, is something they take particular offence to.
Like all vampires, they often find themselves in conflict with the Veil-Touched.
The Kanda clan is ruled by twins Rakesh (Sushant Singh Rajput) and Savita (Janina Gavankar), along with the help of their great grandmother Nikhila (Rekha Sharma).

Rakesh rules the Kanda clan alongside his twin sister, Savita. He is secretive to the point of seeming shy, and for reasons unknown to most, always wears a glamour. If his sister is the sun, life-giving and reliable, Rakesh is the moon—changing, hidden, scarred, but enchanting nonetheless. Many in the family fear his temper, but those whom he sees fit to show kindness know him as a protective friend and ally.

Quite unlike her brother, Savita Kanda is social, congenial, and even-tempered, and is often the public face of their rulership together. Unlike her more aggressive brother, her primary strategy is negotiation; the Kanda clan has managed to avoid many conflicts due to her skills as a mediator. Many who need to address the Kanda twins request a private audience with Savita first, as she is one of the only individuals who can quell her brother’s temper.

Great-grandmother to the Kanda twins, Nikhila is responsible for their turning and headed the clan years before it schismed. Although the twins rule over the Kanda clan, Nikhila’s advice is central to their management of the family, to the point that many of the older Kanda vampires will refer to her instead of the twins. This has become the source of some contention.
There are a total of THREE elders in the Kanda clan, all of whom are related to the twins by blood or bloodsire. Responsibilities primarily include advisement of the twins and the enforcing of Kanda law. Characters must be older than 300 years.
There are THREE councilors in the Kanda clan, all of whom are one step or more removed from the Kanda twins. Responsibilities include advising the twins, receiving messages, acting as ambassador to other clans, gathering information, and any responsibilities given to them directly by the twins.
